10 Step Natural Skin Care Routine

Congratulations, if you’re reading this you’ve decided to take the plunge and try and start your natural skincare journey! Let me first start by saying, I did solid research into these products, every version of the phrase ‘natural beauty’ you can think of, I Googled it.

If I didn’t have a full-time job, a pay check burning a hole in my pocket and a major product shortage making my face sad, I probably would have done more.

By Katt Rodrigues

I have oily/combination skin and trust me when I say there is 100% winners in here for all skin types & most are cult beauty products (I looked at the reviews in depth for these A LOT).

These products cover a range of categories within the world of natural skincare. It is important to remember that organic, non-toxic, 100% natural, made from natural ingredients, green, no chemicals, vegan, ethical and fair trade ALL mean different things. Some products are a combination of both or only one, but don’t worry guys & gals, as you read on you’ll see I’ve added italics to let you know what’s what.

I had a few things that were a must for me and I made sure I looked at all the ingredients before I went ahead. Firstly there had to be NO PARABENS, there was no compromise here huns, these are the actual devil's work.

They had to be able to be purchased on the UK high street (this was more about my problem with impatience) although a couple ended up being bought online because I wanted them that bad.

And they had to be within a budget, there are some pricier ones here, but I am not ballin’ so there is some compromise.

SO enough of the boring stuff, grab a pad & pen for my 10 step natural skincare routine...

1. The Body Shop Tea Tree Face Wash

Vegan & Community Trade Ingredients

I ditched the face wipes a while ago and I urge you all to do the same. They don’t even remove your makeup properly and they suck for the environment, boo. For me personally, I like this product because not only does it remove pretty much all signs of make-up, but the fresh tea tree hit your face gets is a total dream. It’s suitable for blemished skin, vegan AND a bargain at £6.50, get in!

The Body Shop, UK £6.50

2. Super Facialist Vitamin C Cleansing Oil

Vegan & Natural Ingredients

“Oil?! You want me to rub oil on my face?!”...yeah I do. Oil cleansing is really popular with beauty bloggers and dermatologists alike because of the benefits and unreal treatment it gives to your skin. I have oily/combination skin, heavy on the oily side and I’ve not seen ANY negative effects using this product. That is because I recommend (and so do the experts) to use it as part of a 2 step cleansing routine. This little beauty is made of great stuff - rosehip oil, cucumber oil & olive oil to give you feel super smooooth.

Boots, UK 200ml £12.00

3. Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser

Vegan & Natural Ingredients

Needs no introduction, a total classic and cult fav. I’ve been using this product since my best friend introduced it to me a couple of years ago, there were other contenders for position three on this list, but I didn’t have the heart to replace it. Creamy and packed full of goodies such as rosemary & cocoa butter, it can be used day & night! It really does leave your skin feeling clean and breathable, ready to start your night time nourishment.

Liz Earle, UK 100ml, £13.60

4. Garnier Organic Thyme Perfect Toner

Vegan, Certified Organic, Ethically Sourced Ingredients  & 100% Recyclable Bottle!

When I saw Garnier had launched an organic range, I was shook. How had I not seen this before?! And what a total FIND this is let me tell you! Not only is this certified organic, vegan and has the least amount of non toxic ingredients, it's also cheap as chips! It removes any last little bits of makeup, especially pesky mascara, doesn’t sting like other toners (especially when they get in your eye, however still be careful) and smells great!

Boots, UK 150ml £5.99

“But what about cotton pads?!” I hear you cry, “aren’t they bad for the environment too?! WHAT DO I USE!?”
I got your back gal. Get yourself some reusable cotton pads! The ones I got are super soft, 100% cotton & work perfectly, they are a little pricey but totally worth it to help save the planet, right?

Holland & Barrett UK,  Reusable Cotton Pads x 6 - £8.00

5.  The Body Shop Vitamin C Skin Boost Instant Smoother Serum

Ethically Sourced Ingredients

Wow, wow, wow & wow. This stuff is the one. I did a lot of looking around for essential ingredients to help retain skin firmness, help with fatigue and anti ageing (I ain’t getting any younger) and vitamin C is the chosen one. This stuff smells I.N.C.R.E.D.I.B.L.E and leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth with a luxurious glow. Made with Amazonian Camu Camu Berries this baby is easily one of my favourite products here!

The Body Shop, UK - £17.00

6. Botanics All Bright Eye Roll On

Natural Ingredients

After a long hard day of work, this cool & refreshing little roll on is just what I need. Botanics is a great brand with vegan products and loads of natural ingredients! This little baby includes skin brightening Hibiscus and gives my eyes some much needed TLC. The cool rollerball de puffs the day away & it can be used in the morning too! Top tip, keep this in the fridge overnight to wake yourself up in the AM.

Boots, UK 15ml  £8.99

7. The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%

Cruelty Free, Vegan & Alcohol Free

What I love about The Ordinary is not only the total value for money and it’s non existent toxic ingredients but the science behind the brand. The team are specialists in chemistry and pass on this knowledge into their products, with incred results. Because of the vast range of products they use, you have to research what is right for your skin and what you want to achieve from each product. For oily and blemish prone skin, this comes out on top for its sebum reducing properties and I’m on my 3rd bottle because I use it morning and night! I had to buy this online because for me, there was no other clear choice.
Beauty Bay UK, 30ml £5.00

8. The Ordinary 100% Organic, Cold Pressed Rosehip Seed Oil

Vegan, Cruelty Free, Organic, Natural, I could go on...

Easily my favourite here because it has just one ingredient, it’s organic and it’s a miracle worker. I know, the gals with oily skin are begging me to stop asking them to put more on their face but trust me, if you buy only one thing on this list, make it this! ONLY use this at night because it is literally just oil but it leaves your skin feeling smooth, soft and works wonders while you sleep. It hasn’t made me break out and I can see the actual life it gives my skin in the morning.

Beauty Bay UK, 30ml £9.00

9. The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA

Vegan & Cruelty Free

I may have a fav brand towards the end here, but it’s totally justified. I’ve been using this moisturiser for a couple of years now and it stayed on my list for two reasons. One is that It’s just great for oily skin, it leaves it feeling matte and hydrated with the support of 11 amino acids & hyaluronic acid. Two is because when I did this shopping trip I had LOADS left and I didn’t feel the need to buy another brand on my list just yet. And again, what you get for the price means it’s a no brainer.

Beauty Bay, 100ml £6.75

10. Green People Zap & Clear Serum

Fair Trade, Cruelty Free, Vegan & 88% Organic

This one is optional depending on your skin but it’s a little tube of magic! Black Willow Bark battles bacteria that’s associated with acne the help of organic Aloe Vera & Rosehip. It’s a handy size to carry around and is recommended to use throughout the day. I find it’s great to use at night as I only occasionally have isolated spots, so it all depends how severe they are.
The Green People, 10ml £14.00

So there we have it, my 10 step night time natural skincare routine that’s tried and tested! You have to decide what means the most to you when it comes to taking the first steps for better skincare, is it less plastic packaging? Maybe non - toxic ingredients? How about all vegan?

It also depends on how much you are willing to spend on skin care, time researching and what you are passionate about. Reading this means you want to make a change and start to take care of yourself a little more, it’s a walk not a race so brownie points for making a start! These are my choices and my skin has honestly never felt better, I always wake up and love how it looks, so much that I’ve started to wear no make-up to work.
