Here’s how to achieve the perfect natural skin glow
Want to get your skin ready for summer? Here’s our ultimate guide to healthy, glowing skin.
Summer is on its way and you better believe that we are excited! Sunny days, cute outfits and an excuse to eat more ice cream? Yes, please. This month we are loving all things ‘Au Natural’ and finding little hacks you can do at home to detoxify and cleanse your skin, to get ready for the summer season.
A change of season means a change in the needs of your skin. I think a lot of women will agree that there is nothing worse than walking around on a scorching day and your face starts melting with makeup smudging left, right and centre. On the flip side, it is also just as bad being exposed to the sun all day and having your face dry out like a shrivelled little prune! That’s why we’re challenging you to put the foundation down, pick up the moisturiser and try some of our top tips to give your skin a natural, healthy glow that can survive all weather and lets your true radiance shine!
Pamper your skin
This is a fun activity to help you unwind after a long week and actually has untold benefits to help you get the glowing skin you desire. You should exfoliate your skin 2-3 times a week, to eliminate any blackheads and clear out dirt in your pores. Our current favourite is the daily concepts charcoal soap sponge, which is packed with mineral-rich charcoal powder that eliminates any nasties in the skin, whilst absorbing excess oils and toxins (amazing, right?). Another great way to clear blackheads is by using a T-zone charcoal mask. After exfoliating your skin, give it a little TLC. Natural cleansers and water-based moisturisers are a perfect way to hydrate and clean the skin and can be done daily.
Use Hyaluronic acid
I know, I know, it sounds a little scary but this stuff works wonders for your skin! This heavy-hitting hydrator can hold up to 100x its own weight in water, meaning it’ll draw water into every layer of the skin and hold it there, leaving you with a natural glow that lasts.
Let SPF become your best friend
We all know the dangers the sun can have on our skin if we are exposed for too long, but how many of us actually do anything about it? Not a lot i’m guessing. Well, sorry to break it to you sister but even if you are a tanned goddess, your skin needs a little protection. The best way to do this is to apply SPF daily. We suggest you get a moisturiser that has SPF already in it (my personal favourite is the bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Defense, it’s so dreamy) as this is a great way to prolong natural, healthy glowing skin.
Stay Hydrated
Now I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but if you want to achieve a natural, healthy skin glow then you need to drink lots of water! Drinking water is the easiest (and cheapest) hack to clear and healthy skin. It helps to clear the toxins that cause inflammation and blemishes and also assists in transporting nutrients and oxygen to skin cells, preventing dehydration. Win, win!
Go crazy for Vitamin C
Don’t like oranges? Well, you better start because upping your Vitamin C intake has various skin-protecting and healing benefits. According to research, Vitamin C-rich foods not only mop up the free radicals that cause wrinkles and sagging, but can actually help to remove the DNA damage they form. Can I get a hell yes?
Use natural-looking makeup products
Less is more and in summer this is particularly true. So ditch the dark red lipstick and thick foundation you used to get through the winter months for some more natural-looking products. Start by using a nourishing oil as a base layer to keep your skin looking dewy and hydrated. We absolutely love the Natural world macadamia ultra nourishing oil, it smells amazing! Then go for a light coverage BBcream, to even out any discolouration in your skin and give you the perfect ‘no makeup’ makeup look. Finally, add a dash of colour to make you look youthful and fresh as a daisy. The Douvall’s Argan Lip and Cheek oil is the perfect addition and is handy too as it is a 2-in-1!
