The three products that will take your eyes from S/S17 to A/W17
Get ready for a summer of look-at-me liner, colour blocking and electric brights: spring/summer 2017 is the season of playful eye make-up. If you’re planning to dabble in the hottest looks of SS17, but don’t want to buy heaps of new products that will be one season wonders, then here’s the answer: trans-seasonal products that will see you through the big trends of SS17 but will then help you recreate the hotly predicted looks of AW17, come next season.
So if you’re an eye make-up junkie that wants bang for your buck when trying out trends, keep reading. We’ve picked out the only three products you’ll need, both this season and next.
The product: MAC Paint Stick, Cyan £16
Wear it this season: At the SS17 shows a paint-box of shades dominated, from turquoise at Victoria Beckham to mustard yellow at Sportsmax, but the overriding message was clear: keep lids bright, daring and downright fun. When it comes to colourwash eyes, this highly pigmented chunky crayon is perfect for creating vibrant colour and this particular shade is a dead ringer for the azure hue seen at VB. Apply straight from the stick to keep the colour intense, but play around with placement: copy VB’s graphic flicks or go for a pretty Sportsmax-style wash all over the lid.
Wear it next season: Colourful lids will be given a slightly pared back look for winter: next season’s colours are more muted and textures are less intense. At Mary Katrantzou, MAC Paint Sticks were mixed with white powder to soften the intensity of the colourful shades. Do the same with your Cyan stick and apply with fingers to create the same pretty pastel blue effect.
The product: Glo & Ray Longwear Precision Eyeliner £6.90
Wear it this season: Classic, clean, feline flicks ruled at Elie Saab, Fendi and Moschino’s SS17 shows. We’ll be using Glo & Ray’s heavy-duty liner to copy the look: its durable formula well keep it put through sweaty summer nights out. We’ll take our inspo from Moschino’s 90’s supermodel homage and complete the look with our trusty MAC Spice Lipliner and lippie, a la Evangelista.
Wear it next season: We’ll be throwing it back to the Sixties next season so come armed with liquid liner. At Chloe we saw classic Sixties’ winged liner: to recreate this effect, smudge kohl along upper and lower lash lines and along the water line, before using Glo & Ray’s Longwear Precision Eyeliner in black, to create dramatic flicks in the outer corners. For a more daring take, try out the Chanel AW17 eye: graphic liner drawn across the browbone, instead of along the lashline. If you’re brave enough to sport this look, Glo & Ray’s easy-peasy felt-tip will keep your flicks neat. Complete the look with silver shadow and clumpy black spider lashes.
The product: Nars Blush, Exhibit A £23
Wear it this season: Yes, we did just say blusher for your eyes. At Kenzo, bright coral-red was worn smudged on to browbones and temples, in a high-impact look that we can’t get enough of. A highly pigmented blush, such as this bestseller, creates the dense rosy colour we’re aiming for here, so smear and smudge away, then complete with glossy red lips. No it’s not a style we’d sport at the office, but we can’t deny our love for this fun, attention-grabbing look. We predict plenty of copycats come festival-time.
Wear it next season: Pink eyes are set to be the hottest eye trend of next season, but banish all memories of teenage experimentation and look to Mark Fast, Marchesa and Oscar De La Renta’s AW17 shows for some pink-spo. Go soft and rosy or bold and ballsy – whichever part of the posy spectrum you pick you’ll be nodding to a major trend. Come winter we’ll be lightly blending this blush over our eyelids and painting lashes electric blue, for a colour-pairing that – as proven at the Mark Fast AW17 show- against all odds works beautifully well.
